IRS issues information about EFTPS software phaseouts

Two legacy EFTPS software interfaces are being phased out. Employers who currently use the Internet, phone or new enhanced EFTPS batch provider software released in July 2006 may continue to do so. However:

Free enhanced EFTPS batch provider software is available from the EFTPS Web site by clicking on “Help and Information” and then “Downloads.”

Employers who use the old EFTPS PC software to make multiple payments for multiple clients must re-enroll all clients for whom payments are made. This may take up to two weeks to complete. To begin, download the free enhanced EFTPS batch provider software at the link provided.

Employers using the old EFTPS PC dial-up/modem software to make payments for their business only are encouraged to use EFTPS via the Internet or phone at (800) 555-3453. Employers can continue to use their current Personal Identification Number (PIN) when making payments via the phone. They will also need their Taxpayer Identification Number, which was used to create the original enrollment. To obtain an Internet password, which is required to make payments online, employers can call (800) 982-3526.

Also, employers using commercially available software may want to check with the manufacturer to make sure that they are not using the EFTPS dial-up/modem only version of the EFTPS PC software to transmit payments (IRS Stakeholder Partners' Headliner, Vol. 222, January 14, 2008).
