Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) announced on February 1, 2007, that he will be introducing legislation in the coming weeks that would amend the Family and Medical Leave Act to provide for at least six weeks of paid leave for employees for the birth or adoption of a child or in order to care for themselves, their children or an immediate family member. The program would be funded by a shared-cost mechanism, involving the employer, the employee and the federal government. The bill, that is expected to be co-sponsored by Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), would also expand the number of individuals eligible for FMLA leave.
Dodd's comments and a favorable reaction from Debra Ness, president of the National Partnership for Women & Families appear on the Senator's website, (Website).
