CCH® UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE — 12/04/12

CMS announces Medicare premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance rates for 2013

Part A premium: Most individuals do not pay a monthly Part A premium because they (or a spouse) have 40 or more quarters of Medicare-covered employment. However, for 2013, the Part A premium will be $243 per month for those individuals having 30-39 quarters of Medicare-covered employment and $441 per month for those who are not otherwise eligible for premium-free hospital insurance and have less than 30 quarters of Medicare-covered employment.

Part B premium: The standard Medicare Part B monthly premium will be $104.90 in 2013, which is a $5.00 increase over the 2012 premium of $99.90.

Part A deductible, coinsurance amounts: For each benefit period Medicare pays all covered costs except the Medicare Part A deductible (2013 = $1,184) during the first 60 days and coinsurance amounts for hospital stays that last beyond 60 days and no more than 150 days. For each benefit period an individual will pay a total of $1,184 for a hospital stay of 1-60 days; $296 per day for days 61-90 of a hospital stay; and $592 per day for lifetime reserve days.

Skilled nursing facility coinsurance: In 2013, an individual will pay $148 per day for days 21 through 100 each benefit period, up from $144.50 in 2012.

Part B deductible, coinsurance amounts: The deductible is $147 for 2013, an increase of $7 from the 2012 amount (CMS Communications, 77 Fed. Reg. 69848, 77 Fed. Reg. 69850, 77 Fed. Reg. 69859, 11/21/2012).
