IRS grants tax relief to victims of severe storms, tornadoes, and straight-line winds in Oklahoma

The IRS has announced tax relief for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the federal disaster area of Carter, Cleveland, McIntosh, Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Pottawatomie and Seminole counties in Oklahoma affected by severe storms, tornadoes, and straight-line winds beginning on May 10, 2010. The relief extends until July 9, 2010 deadlines for filing most returns, including Form 5500, and paying taxes otherwise due during the period of May 10, 2010 and July 9, 2010. For excise and employment deposits due during the period of May 10, 2010 and May 25, 2010, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalties if such deposits were made by May 25, 2010.
