SSA issues renewal notices for two computer matching programs scheduled to expire in September

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced the renewal of two computer matching programs. The first program is between the SSA and the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) and it expires on September 1, 2013. The second program is between the SSA and the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (Fiscal Service) and it expires on September 30, 2013.

Computer matching program between SSA and RRB (Match Number 1006)

The purpose of this matching program is to set forth the terms, conditions, and safeguards under which the RRB, as the source agency, will disclose RRB annuity payment data to the SSA, the recipient agency. The SSA will use the information to verify Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Special Veterans Benefits (SVB) eligibility and benefit payment amounts. It will also record the railroad annuity amounts RRB paid to SSI and SVB recipients in the Supplemental Security Income Record (SSR).

The effective date of this matching program is September 2, 2013. It will continue for 18 months from the effective date and, if both agencies meet certain conditions, it may extend for an additional 12 months.

Computer matching program between SSA and Fiscal Service (Match Number 1304)

The purpose of this matching program is to set forth the conditions, terms, and safeguards under which the Fiscal Service will disclose ownership of Savings Securities to the SSA. This disclosure will provide the agency with information necessary to verify an individual’s self-certification of his/her financial status to determine eligibility for low income subsidy assistance (Extra Help) in the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit program established under the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 (PubLNo 108-173).

The effective date of this matching program is October 1, 2013. It will continue for 18 months from the effective date and, if both agencies meet certain conditions, it may extend for an additional 12 months.
