The 2007 U.S. Master Wage-Hour Guide presents a first approach to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), summarizing the basic legislation. Succeeding chapters demonstrate how the rules apply to particular employment situations and explore practical aspects of employment arrangements in light of the federal wage and hour law. These include how minimum wages must be paid, payment of overtime for hours worked in excess of a specified number, discrimination in pay on the basis of sex, and the employment of minors.

The 2007 edition also encompasses the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007. On May 25, 2007, President Bush signed the Act, which raises the federal rate in three steps: from $5.15 to $5.85 per hour on July 24, 2007, to $6.55 per hour on July 24, 2008, and to $7.25 per hour on July 24, 2009.

Also covered: the US Supreme Court decision upholding the application of the companionship services exemption, which excludes from FLSA coverage employees who provide care for elderly or ill patients in their homes, to home-based caregivers who are employed by third-party agencies; and recent developments under the Family and Medical Leave Act. Other significant legal developments that have occurred since the last edition are also included.
