SSA seeks comments on proposed information gathering activities

The Social Security Administration is soliciting comments from the public regarding one revision of an information gathering activity prior to submission for clearance by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), as well as for an extension of an information gathering activity for which clearance has already been sought.

Specifically, the SSA wants feedback on the need for the information solicited and its practical utility; the accuracy of the agency's burden estimate; ways to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the manner in which the information is collected; and ways to minimize the burden on respondents, including the use of automated collection techniques or other forms of information technology.

The forms and other information gathering activities for which comments are sought are listed in the June 22, 2012, Federal Register (77 Fed. Reg. 37728). Comments may be mailed or faxed to the addresses and numbers listed in the notice.

Comments due July 23, 2012

Comments are due by July 23, 2012, for the following data collection request, which has already been submitted to the OMB for approval: Representative Payment Policies Regulation (information provided under Regs. §§404.2011, 404.2025, 416.611, 416.625). This is information submitted by a claimant to rebut a determination by the SSA that it would be harmful for the beneficiary to receive benefit payments directly. The request also includes information provided by a representative payee on the payee’s continuing relationship and responsibility for the beneficiary, and how the representative payee uses the beneficiary’s payments.

Comments due August 21, 2012

Comments are due by August 21, 2012, for the following data collection request, which has not yet been submitted to the OMB for approval: Request for Deceased Individual's Social Security Record (SSA-711). This information is used to verify that the wage earner is deceased and to access the correct Social Security record.
