2010 Social Security cost-of-living adjustment is unchanged from 2009

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced that monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits received by beneficiaries starting in January 2010 will not automatically increase. This will be the first year without an automatic cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) since they went into effect in 1975. Thus, the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax will remain at $106,800.
