IRS grants tax relief to victims of storms and tornadoes in Missouri, Georgia, Colorado and Iowa
- The IRS has announced special tax relief for taxpayers within a three-county disaster area in Missouri affected by severe storms and tornadoes on May 10, 2008. The Presidential Disaster Area consists of Barry, Jasper and Newton counties. The relief extends until July 22, 2008 the deadlines for filing most returns and paying taxes otherwise due during the period of May 10, 2008 through July 22, 2008. For excise and employment deposits due during the period of May 10, 2008 through May 27, 2008, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalty if such deposits were made by May 27, 2008.
- The IRS has announced special tax relief for taxpayers within a ten-county disaster area in Georgia affected by severe storms and flooding on May 11, 2008. The Presidential Disaster Area consists of Bibb, Carroll, Douglas, Emanuel, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Laurens, McIntosh and Twiggs counties. The relief extends until July 22, 2008 the deadlines for filing most returns and paying taxes otherwise due during the period of May 11, 2008 through July 22, 2008. For excise and employment deposits due during the period of May 11, 2008 through May 27, 2008, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalty if such deposits were made by May 27, 2008.
- The IRS has announced special tax relief for taxpayers within a two-county disaster area in Colorado affected by severe storms and tornadoes on May 22, 2008. The Presidential Disaster Area consists of Larimer and Weld counties. The relief extends until July 25, 2008, the deadlines for filing most returns and paying taxes otherwise due during the period of May 22, 2008, through July 25, 2008. For excise and employment deposits due during the period of May 22, 2008 through June 6, 2008, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalty if such deposits were made by June 6, 2008.
- The IRS has announced special tax relief for taxpayers within Butler, Blackhawk, and Buchanan counties in Iowa, which were affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding on May 25, 2008. The relief extends until July 28, 2008, the deadlines for filing most returns and paying taxes otherwise due during the period of May 25, 2008, through July 28, 2008. For excise and employment deposits due during the period of May 25, 2008 through June 9, 2008, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalty if such deposits were made by June 9, 2008.
