Individuals with questions regarding BP payments or who are experiencing filing or payment hardships due to the oil spill or need to request suspension of collection and examination actions may contact the IRS weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. local time at 866-562-5227. The IRS also announced that the Service will conduct a special assistance day for oil spill victims on Saturday, July 17 in seven cities: Panama City and Pensacola, FL; New Orleans, Houma and Baton Rouge, LA; and Gulfport, MS. On that day, taxpayers and their preparers will be able to work directly with IRS employees to resolve tax issues related to the oil spill. The locations and time will be announced shortly.
