Effective July 17, 2012, driver’s and driver’s helpers will be exempt from the state’s overtime requirements where such workers are not paid hourly and are subject to the federal motor carrier safety law and regs. Existing exemptions regarding drivers and driver’s helpers will be repealed. This change is being made to conform Maine law to federal law regarding the payment of overtime to truck drivers and driver’s helpers. (Ch. 681 (H.B. 1237; L.D. 1685), Laws 2011, enacted May 21, 2012.)
