Maine Governor John E. Baldacci signed legislation on April 17 that will increase the minimum wage from $7.00 per hour to $7.25 per hour on October 1, 2008, and again to $7.50 per hour effective October 1, 2009. According to the governor, this legislation, LD 1697, “makes sure that wages in Maine keep pace with the rest of New England.” (State of Maine, Office of the Governor, News Release, April 17, 2008.)
