Workers' comp-related leaves of absence may run concurrently with Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals reiterated, in the case of an employee who argued to no avail that an employer may not "force" an employee to take FMLA leave or discharge an employee for absences resulting from a work-related injury. The number of employers who say they will get more directly involved in managing the individual health of their employees jumped 25 percentage points from last year, reflecting a nationwide trend to find more ways to save money in a tightening economy, according to new research by Hewitt Associates. As wellness programs grow in popularity, employees overwhelmingly see value in these healthy activities, but don't stay committed to them. Nearly half of employees who have joined wellness programs in the past three years admit their participation trailed off after just a few years, according to a survey released last week by the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America.
