More employers eye changes to health benefits to control costs, improve worker behavior

House passes bill repealing insurance industry antitrust exemption

On February 24, 2010, the House of Representatives passed the Health Insurance Industry Fair Competition Act (HR 4626), by a vote of 406 to 19. Designed "to restore the application of the Federal antitrust laws to the business of health insurance to protect competition and consumers," the bill was introduced by Representative Thomas Perriello of Virginia on February 22.

Obama to announce next steps on health reform

President Obama is expected to announce "the best path forward" on health care reform the week of March 1, according to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. At a press briefing on February 26, Gibbs described the pending announcement as "an updated proposal" in the wake of the day-long health care summit held with Republican lawmakers on February 25.
