You can set certain search options within Preferences so that they will be used for all searches you run.
Click the Preferences link on the navigation bar.
Click the Set Search Options tab.
Select a search method by clicking the drop-down arrow and selecting an item. See also: Choosing a search method.
To clear the Run Recent Searches box on the My CCH tab after each session, click the checkbox next to Clear recent searches at log out.
Set the number of documents you want returned by typing a desired number in the box. This option is only available when you choose to display your search results "by Document."
Click the drop-down arrow and select how you would like to display your search results: by document or by table of contents.

If you want your results sorted by relevance, click the checkbox next to Sort results by relevance. This option is only available when you choose to display your search results "by Document."
If you want to see your search terms highlighted within search results lists and documents so that they can be easily identified, click the checkbox next to Highlight search terms within search results.
If you want your results to include the title of each document along with words surrounding the first occurrence of your search term or terms, click the checkbox next to Display words around hits in results list.
If you want to automatically apply the thesaurus so the system will automatically look for synonyms of your search terms in addition to the terms you typed, click the checkbox next to Automatically apply thesaurus.
If you do not wish to enable citation searching from the Word Search box, click the checkbox next to Do not allow citation searching in word search box.
When you are finished, click the Apply Changes button and continue with your research.
To return your search preferences to the default settings, click the Restore Default Settings button at the bottom of the Preferences Search Options tab. Then click Yes to restore the defaults. The Clear Selections link does not restore default settings. It only clears selections you made on the Search Tools template.
