You can target specific types of documents to search. Most items contain many types of documents. Often you are looking for one type of document in particular such as Revenue Rulings or Revenue Procedures. You can simply target those before you execute your search.
Depending on the items you have targeted on the Main Menu, only document types available for those items will appear in Search Tools. To target a specific document type or types, simply click the checkboxes next to the document types you want to retrieve.
Also, many document types include a number of sub-types of documents. For example, the document type Regulations contains sub-types including Final Regulations, Temporary Regulations, and Proposed Regulations. If a document type contains sub-types, the name of the document type will be underlined and linkable. To target sub-document types, click the underlined document type name. The sub-types of that document type will appear just underneath that document type on the Search Options template. To target sub-document types, click the checkboxes next to the sub-types you want to retrieve.
At the appropriate tab, select the items you want to search by clicking the checkboxes next to them.
Type your search terms in the word search box on the button bar.
Click the Search Tools button.
Click the checkboxes next to the document types you want to search in, (e.g., CCH Explanations, Revenue Rulings, or Revenue Procedures).
Click Search on the navigation bar.
